Georgios (George D.) Spyropoulos is an Associate Professor at Ghent University’s Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. With a background in Materials Science and Engineering (University of Crete & Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg), he has worked internationally in leading labs across Europe and the USA, including Columbia University’s Translational Neuro-Electronics Lab.

His research brings together materials science, bioelectronics, and neuroscience to create soft, minimally invasive neural interfaces. These technologies aim to advance our understanding of brain function, explore the auditory-neurological pathway, and develop novel therapies for neurological and auditory disorders.

Prof. Spyropoulos is the principal investigator of the Neural Waves (NeW) group, where his team pioneers next-generation neurotechnologies to improve health and human–machine interaction.
